Our story

Back in 2017, our founder Alexander Helling came across a huge opportunity. There was great potential in previously overlooked, lower-temperature geothermal resources all over the world. He realized that this could expand the global geothermal market and play a pivotal role in the energy transition.

The next year, Baseload Capital was founded to raise funds for geothermal projects, and Baseload Power was established to operate power plants. Just four years later, no fewer than eight pilot plants had been established in Iceland, Japan and the U.S., with future projects planned in Taiwan – a tremendous milestone.

To get that far, we had to overcome multiple hurdles, financial as well as technical. The key to our success? A growing team of resilient and innovative pioneers, backed by committed, long-term investors.

Our aim is to become a leading global investor, developer and operator of geothermal energy. And since we will not achieve this on our own, we work for a planet in balance by leading partnerships to scale up the whole industry.

Our process

We work collaboratively with our subsidiaries to deploy geothermal power plants worldwide. We handle financing, market research and technology knowledge – while our power companies manage the project sourcing, evaluation and qualification processes, and execution.

By offering early-stage capital, equity and/or debt, we can accelerate the development of geothermal power projects and ensure meaningful returns.

Market research

We do extensive research to identify potential new markets, then we investigate and help secure land-lease and power-purchase agreements.

Technology knowledge

We are experts in the technology required to deploy geothermal power plants, and know what it takes to maximize uptime.

OUR POWER COMPANIES

Project sourcing

Our power companies evaluate geological conditions, map plant locations and check grid capacity, and establish relationships with key stakeholders.

Evaluation & qualification

For final confirmation, the power companies run water samples, gravity surveys, and more. Then they sign the land-lease and off-take agreements, and obtain local permits.

Execution

Local teams manage the actual project development, in parallel with permitting, site preparation, technology procurement, etc.

Our parent company Baseload Capital invests in geothermal projects worldwide. Our subsidiaries, the Baseload Power companies, build, commission and operate geothermal heat and power plants funded by Baseload Capital.

Alexander leads Baseload Capital’s investments and portfolio performance. He has extensive experience in international project finance as well as operating and running companies.

Charlotte oversees the financial planning, budgeting, cash flow management, and reporting for Baseload Group. Capital raising, investor management, financial risk mitigation, and governance compliance are also part of her role. Charlotte has more than 15 years of experience in global business expansion.
