Three strong leaders join Baseload Power Iceland

Baseload Power Iceland has recently appointed Guðmundur Páll Líndal as Business Development Director, Gunnar Gunnarsson as Geothermal Resource Director, and Sæmundur Guðlaugsson as Power plant Operations Director.
Guðmundur Páll Líndal brings extensive expertise in production scaling, branding, marketing, and sales, offering valuable experience and added strength to the Baseload Power Iceland team. He holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Iceland and has significant business experience, notably as an entrepreneur and founder behind brands such as Lava Cheese—the cheese snack that has gained popularity across Europe. As Business Development Director, Guðmundur will be responsible for maintaining and expanding Baseload’s current partnerships, initiating new collaborations, and driving the company’s business development within its geothermal projects.
Sæmundur Guðlaugsson is a highly skilled geothermal professional, with broad knowledge and hands-on experience in the maintenance and operations of geothermal power plants and district heating systems. He has led numerous innovation and improvement projects in this field and has been responsible for investment proposals related to equipment and operational investments. Sæmundur played a key role in founding a turbine repair service for ON Power, Iceland’s largest geothermal power producer, along with general mechanical maintenance of its power stations. He holds a master’s degree in project management as well as qualifications in mechanical technology and business administration from the University of Reykjavík. Sæmundur has specialized knowledge in preventive maintenance, innovation, project management, and operational excellence.
Gunnar Gunnarsson holds a PhD in experimental physics from the University of Basel in Switzerland, an MSc in physics from the University of Copenhagen, and a BSc in physics and geophysics from the University of Iceland. He brings deep expertise in geothermal systems, reservoir engineering, and resource management. Before joining Baseload, he worked as a Senior Geoscientist at Reykjavík Energy (Orkuveita Reykjavíkur), where he was involved in the operation of the high enthalpy geothermal fields at Hellisheiði and Nesjavellir, as well as in the company’s development and research projects in deep supercritical geothermal energy, including serving as lead researcher for the Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP). Previously, Gunnar worked in geothermal exploration and well logging at Iceland GeoSurvey (ÍSOR). He has also spent several years teaching courses in geothermal reservoir science at the University of Iceland and contributed to the UNESCO GRO geothermal training program in various parts of the world.
